Why USA entered WWI

  1. What I love is that the Zimmerman telegram was sent on an American diplomatic line, from the American embassy in Germany. And the Americans actually just passed it along! The British were able to intercept it because the line passed through England and they were monitoring the American diplomatic cable (which would have infuriated the Americans should they find out). Not wanting to reveal this, and not wanting to reveal to the Germans that they had broken the code, the British waited with the decrypted telegram for three weeks before they were able to get a copy of the telegram from an agent in Mexico. This version also conveniently used an older German encryption code, which allowed the British to send the telegram to the Americans without them knowing they’d monitored their diplomatic cable or that they’d cracked the latest German codes. The British continued monitoring for 25 years.

  2. Because ask country to join to yet another war after 7 years of civil war, death between 1 300 000 to 2 000 000 people and already ongoing fights and bandits raids on american side of border sounds as reasonable proposition for Mexico…
