  1. Funnily enough, the Colonies could bear the hightened taxes. It was only the crackdown on smuggling that broke the camel’s back.

    Also, military bills leading to coups and/or revolts should be its own comic, since this shit has happened all the way back at least as far as Carthage.

  2. I’m afraid Britain didn’t adopt the flag pictures until the Irish Parliament formally joined the Union. I forget the year but it was around 1801. Until then the diagonal stripes were only white with no red centre.

    Also fun tip for those drawing the modern UK flag; the thin red diagonal stripes are *not* in the centre of the white stripes. The clockwise side of the white stripe should be thicker than the anti-clockwise side.
